PunctureProof Tyres Ltd. - FAQ

Q. What is Punctureproof Tyre Sealant?
A. Punctureproof Tyre Sealant is an thixotropic aqueous Glycol tyre sealant that when installed in a tyre will provide protection against air loss for the full legal life of the tyre.

Q. How does it seal a wound in the tread of the tyre?
A. Punctureproof Tyre Sealant lays down a thin protective coating between the tyre and the air within the tyre. When an object penetrates the tread area the air pressure within the tyre forces the sealant into the puncture wound

Q. How does it prevent rim/bead leaks?
A. Rotational forces acting within the confines of the tyre spread the product evenly around the inside of the tyre, coating the entire inside of the tyre, including the bead and rim area. Any potential air-loss area's, will be instantly sealed by, Punctureproof Tyre Sealant being forced into that area.

Q. What is the shelf life of Punctureproof Tyre Sealant?
A. Indefinite -as long as the container is kept sealed and no evaporation occurs.

Q. Does a penetrating object need to be removed even though Punctureproof Tyre Sealant has prevented a flat tyre?
A. Always. Even though Punctureproof Tyre Sealant has sealed around the object, if it is left in the tyre it will move as the tyre rotates and will create a larger wound until air loss occurs.

Q. Must a tyre be run after a penetrating object has been removed?
A. Yes, although Punctureproof Tyre Sealant has covered the wound area left by the puncturing object, it has not entered the wound, therefore the tyre must be run in order to snap open the wound and allow the Punctureproof Tyre Sealant to enter. Once again, the vehicle must be driven after removal of the object.

Q. Does Punctureproof Tyre Sealant react chemically with the rubber tyre?
A. No. Punctureproof Tyre Sealant is chemically inert.

Q. Will Punctureproof Tyre Sealant rust the rim of the tyre?
A. No. Punctureproof Tyre Sealant contains anticorrosive agents to prevent corrosion from occurring it will also help to inhibit any corrosion on the wheel prior to installation.

Q. Does Punctureproof Tyre Sealant run to the bottom of the tyre when it is not in motion?
A. No. Punctureproof Tyre Sealant contains special adhesives which allows the product to adhere to the inner surface of the tyre except for a 25% residual which disperses through evenly throughout the tyre when the tyre is in motion.

Q. Can Punctureproof Tyre Sealant be used in a tube tyre?
A. Yes. However, we are unable to guarantee its success due to the uncertainty of the quality and condition of the tube.

Q. Will Punctureproof Tyre Sealant seal a puncture in the sidewalls of a tyre?
A. No. It may seal the puncture, but due to the flexing in the sidewalls a temporary plug would be a safety factor only.

Q. Will Punctureproof Tyre Sealant create a hard plug in the tread area of the tyre?
A. No, the plugs design, is to be flexible and conform to the flexing of the tyre. If the plug is hard and does not flex with the tyre, leakage will eventually occur.

Q. Will Punctureproof Tyre Sealant dry out in the tyre?
A. No. As the tyre is an air- tight container, no evaporation of the liquid can occur.

Q. Can Punctureproof Tyre Sealant plug up the tyre valve while it is being inserted?
A. In some cases a polyethylene chip can create a blockage and prevent the rubber granules entry. Should this happen, remove the pump connection and allow a short blast of air to clear the plug reattach the connection and continue pumping.

Q. Does Punctureproof Tyre Sealant have Specalist pumps?
A. Yes, Punctureproof Tyre Sealant (the only tiresealant company to develop one)has a fully automated pump that can pump against 200 psi and can pump 5 liters per minute. There is a another pump which is used by hand, and it can pump against 60 psi.

Q. What is the current production rate of the Punctureproof Tyre Sealant factory?
A. 80,000 litres per day

Q. How much Punctureproof Tyre Sealant is ejected with a full stroke of the pump?
A. 100 millilitres

Q. What is the difference between Punctureproof Tyre Sealant and other sealants?
A. As Punctureproof Tyre Sealant is Glycol based it will not break down or dry up inside the tyre, unlike many other products, which congeal and cause balancing problems and alterations to the rubber composition of the tyre. When properly applied, Punctureproof Tyre Sealant will not affect the balance of the tyre.

Q. What difference is there between Punctureproof Tyre Sealant and other products sold in aerosol cans?
A. Many, of these products are designed to "repair" the tyre after the puncture has occurred and are usually a temporary "get you home" measure and after installation the tyre has to be replaced. On the other hand, Punctureproof Tyre Sealant is Pre - Puncture installation.

Q. Is Punctureproof Tyre Sealant flammable?
A. No.

Q. Is Punctureproof Tyre Sealant toxic?
A. No. Punctureproof Tyre Sealant is classified as non toxic, non hazardous. It does not require EPA--Enviromental Protectioin Classification and complies with all TSCA-tOXIC Substance Control Authority requirments.

Q. How does Punctureproof Tyre Sealant affect the manufacturer's warranty?
A. As it is chemically inert and does not react with the tyre components; it cannot affect the manufacturers Warranty.

Q. What is the effect of Punctureproof Tyre Sealant on tyres?
A. Punctureproof Tyre Sealant maintains air pressure, prevents punctures, overheating and porosity leaks as well as extending the life of the tyre.

Q. How does Punctureproof Tyre Sealant perform under extreme temperatures?
A. See "is Punctureproof Tyre Sealant affected by extreme temperatures"
